The 2012 Zito of it all
Barry Zito was the most stunning part of the 2012 season, bookending it with a Coors Field shutout and a win in Game 1 of the World Series. Alex Pavlovic of the Merc-News notes that he'll start the home opener on April 5.
Of course, maybe he was just lucky. It helps to pitch a game where Pablo Sandoval hits 3 homers but still...somehow Zito had a knack for being on the mound last year when the Giants were wearing their hitting shoes. Hence the 15-8 record and the -0.3 WAR, which indicates to me that he had some really awful stretches in there....
He's a mystery man. I'm pleased that he won games when it counted down the stretch, even getting a vic against the NLCS but I'd rather have Timmy out there any day. That's my two cents.
