What's up with Joaquin Arias?

In the sixth, Joaquin Arias hit a two-run, two-out triple, which proved the difference in the game. He entered with a .431 August average, tops in the majors, In his last 21 at-bats with runners in scoring position, he has 10 hits.
Arias' next trip to the plate, he was plunked near his left hand by Hector Ambriz. He winced in pain and remained in the game and moved from shortstop to third base when Brandon Crawford entered in the eighth.

Baseball Reference says he had a 1.0 WAR this year.

Baseball Prospectus (my Bible) didn't even have an entry on him this year and the 2011 edition said he was a "terrible" hitter.
