The Posey factor

Here's how vital Buster is to the offense, per the Chronicle's story by John Shea --

In the seventh, Posey stepped from the dugout to bat for Lincecum after Lincecum surrendered three runs on six hits and two walks. Two runners were aboard, following walks to Brandon Belt and Ryan Theriot, but Posey flied out to end the inning.

"He's caught a lot, and he needed a day off today, without question," Bochy said. "You can't play every game. This is going to take 25 guys."

The Giants are 54-44 with Posey in the lineup, 7-8 when he's not. This isn't as much about Posey as it is the ballpark. When a team is second in the majors in scoring on the road (averaging 5.11 runs) and second from last at home (3.21), it's never about one man.

Even though that one man is the only Giant to hit a home run at China Basin in more than a month. The last Giant not named Buster to do so was Pablo Sandoval on June 29. The same Sandoval who's rehabbing a hamstring injury at Class A San Jose.
