Adios for now, Brian Wilson
Man, that was abrupt. Brian Wilson is telling reporters in the clubhouse that he's done for the year due to elbow surgery, per Andrew Baggarly of CSN Bay Area.
I saw earlier that the front office was planning to have Ryan Vogelsong fill the roster spot. I expect that Heath Hembree will be in the Orange and Black sooner rather than later.
Wilson finished 13th in the MVP voting in 2010, when he had a 3.3 WAR during the regular season.
Then, during the postseason, he finished nine games and pitched 11 and two-thirds innings with 16 strikeouts, five hits and four walks with no earned runs.
He's eligible for free agency in 2013. He broke in with the Orange and Black in 2006 so he's been on the team longer than anyone other than Matt Cain.
