DeRosa DeDone for the year

Yet another Sabean bonehead move. A real shame but this guy should have NEVER been signed in the first place. It was obvious that he was damaged goods. Chris Haft of mlb.com has the details but is too nice to mention that this is an egregious waste of $12 million.

First, since a number of teams were bidding for DeR in the off season, he can't so obviously have been damaged goods. Second, since he is getting $6m this year, when he is contributing nothing, but may contribute plenty next year for the rest of his $12m total, the statement about "egregious waste" of the whole $12m is silly.

Thanks for the thoughtful post but I am going to stand by my statement that this IS an egregious waste of money. It's not "silly" as you put it.

He'll be 36 and will be coming off season-ending surgery. He's brittle. In short, I see every reason to be pessimistic. Additionally, I don't like the guy for not having owned up to the fact that he was damaged goods in the first place.

I hope you're right that he may contribute plenty next year but I would regard that very much as an unexpected bonus if he does.
