The Hitless Wonders

One hundred and two years ago amid the Dead Ball Era, the Chicago White Sox won the World Series despite having virtually no offense with a .230 batting average. They hit seven HRs all year and scored a mere 570 runs in 154 games, then beat a Cubs team in the Series that had gone 116-38 in the regular season.

At this point, the Giants are on track to score 520 runs -- 50 less than the 1906 Chisox, despite playing eight more games. As good as the pitching is, it can't overcome the lack of offense on a consistent basis. Thanks a lot, Brian "Brain" Sabean!

It's amazing that the Giants have won 13 games at this point, given the fact that they've scored only 93 runs so far. The Giants and the Padres (92 runs) are the only teams still under 100 for the year. Brian Bocock and Emmanuel Burris simply can't hit MLB pitching; John Bowker looked like he could but has now gone 4 for 44.
