He Shall Be Livan

Livan has just landed a job with the Twins. It's his first time in the AL, which would seem to negate his biggest value -- which is that he hits very well for a pitcher. He's an innings eater who doesn't get injured but he's not exactly the kind of guy who's going to get you into the post season.

For most people, Livan is forever linked with Eric Gregg and the super-wide strike zone in the 1997 playoffs. But for Giants fans, it's a different story. We're still annoyed at Dusty Baker for starting Livan instead of Reuter in Game 7 of the 2002 World Series. Livan had been hammered in Game 3; perhaps Dusty thought that Eric Gregg was going to umpire Game 7.

He's the ultimate .500 pitcher. He pitched four years with the Giants and went 45-45; his career mark is 134-128.
