Stay away, Bud

AP is reporting that Bud Selig's not sure if he'll show up if Barry Bonds is on the verge of hitting HR No. 756. Let me make it simple for you, Bud. Stay home and think about your sins for a change such as --

-- having canceled the 1994 season and World Series.
-- having allowed the Montreal Expos, Florida Marlins and Tampa Bay Devil Rays to become embarrassments to the game.
-- having a conflict of interest by continuing to own the Brewers while commissioner.
-- calling the All-Star Game a tie and then resolving the situation with an even stupider solution of World Series home-field advantage to the winning league.

I never understood how he was allowed to own the Brewers as commisionner. Isn't there a rule of some kind?

Evidently not. My guess would be that it couldn't be challenged legally because of the antitrust exemption granted MLB in 1920 by the US Supreme Court.

Even though Bud was "acting commissioner" between 1992 and 1998, he owned the Brewers. He got the official "commissioner" title in 1998 and transferred the ownership to his daughter -- another conflict of interest. She finally sold the team in 2004.

So you had the embarrassing spectacle of the guy who's supposed to be making decisions in the best interests of the game with a HUGE incentive not to do so.

In short, Bud is scum
